Kim Hye-Ryoung

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the prevalence of osteoarthritis and its risk factors among community dwelling women elderly and men elderly people in Korea. A total of 987 of women and 800 of men elderly aged 60 and over from the 2010 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES) were selected. The data analysis was performed with weight using the complex sampling function of SPSS version 19.0. The prevalence of osteoarthritis was greater for women elderly(33.4%) compared to men elderly(9.2%). Multivariate logistic regression analysis shows the difference of risk factors of osteoarthritis between women and men elderly people. Prevalence of osteoarthritis in women elderly people was associated with being older aged; having no home ownership; higher waist circumference; performance of moderate intensity physical activity, whereas men elderly people was affected by graduation of elementary school compared to graduation of college; never smoking or former smoking compared to current smoking; higher waist circumference; performance of moderate intensity physical activity. The finding of differences in prevalence of osteoarthritis and its` risk factors between women and men elderly people is expected to promote the screening strategy for elderly at risk of osteoarthritis in Korean community elderly.
